Seeing Red
Seeing Red explores how anger (represented by red), and care and resilience (represented by white), coexist—sometimes visible, sometimes concealed—within daily life.
This is a series of wall hangings, paintings, and more, that incorporate some quantity of red, often with many layers to each piece. The work holds both joy and outrage. The repeat patterns and multiple layers reinforce ideas of accumulation, support, and endurance.
I go to work while caring for myself and those around me. I age. I watch fires burn. I navigate healthcare. I try to stay safe, and I do my best to always be kind.
Making things is an act of defiance. It makes me feel strong. I create these pieces to live with, and to surround myself with reminders of what love feels like.
There are currently 18 pieces in this series with more to come, and I’m looking for a gallery to show them. See more pictures on my Instagram @fatpencils
